A tool that does less. To help you do more.
Collaboration software gets cluttered once too much documentation is available.
This is frustrating and makes projects increasingly difficult to manage.
1. Find out what makes collaboration software complex to use.
2. Design an environment where adding more does not increase complexity.
3. Get more projects done.
The more content we share on a platform, the more exponentially the difficulty of finding crucial info increases. Leading to high costs. To tackle this, Hexagon has these goals:
To reach the goals, we offered these solutions:
One of the hardest problems in IT is retrieving the right information at the right time.
A user might leave a comment related to a file. The relationship between the comment and the file is important.
We gave all todo items or files a special 'comment' button. Clicking it leaves a comment in the chat while keeping a direct link to the todo item or file.
This increases findability and removes duplicate content. There is one source of truth, and it's easy to find now.
The blue panel is our main source of truth and is placed prominently.
Not only do we track 'to-do items for success', but we also track 'project needs'.
We noticed employees have a hard time completing tasks when needs were not met, written down, and followed up on.
These features keep the focus on real project progress instead of just process.
The focus on topology (where can we find what) allowed us to reduce buttons (and thus code) all over the interface.
Where competitors focused on adding more features, we focused on streamlining data findability.
This decluttering of competitor-like features allowed us to create an impactful ease of use.
The main task for users is now: check the main source of truth, click 'comments' to find related info, and complete the task.
